Although more than 33 years old now, this is one of my personal favourite books! It is a beautifully illustrated book about the fortifications that were built during the Autstrian-Hungarian domination of Verona between 1814 and 1866. First part of the book is about the fortifications built in and around Verona in general. But the book focusses on the Austrian fortifications built in the 19th century. It shows the concept of these fortifications in general - how were they designed, built and organised. But the highlights of this book are - without a doubt! - the descriptions of the individual forts and fortifications. Often illustrated with a floorplans and one or more photos of it, the author describes the individual fortifications in detail. The book is written in Italian entirely and is illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps. For anyone interested in Austrian-Hungarian fortifications of the 19th century this book is an ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE!! It is so hard to find ANY book on the subject - let alone a high-quality book like this one! |
