First volume of a two-volume book that describes the history of permanent fortification until 1870. This volume describes fortification from its origins until Vauban. The book is, in fact, a reprint of the "Course de Fortification permanente" as used by the French "Ecole d'Application de l'Artillerie et du GĂ©nie" in March 1882. This volume starts with the fortifications of the antiques and ends with the arrival of the bastioned fortifications of Vauban. All the theories and ideas of the past are explained with the use of more than 130 drawings, plans and maps. The book is (hand-)written in French entirely and full of BEAUTIFUL illustrations - have a look at the scans and see for yourselves! A book for the true specialists amongst us! |
