Description

The book is an accurate description of the history and architecture of the German Westwall - a defenceline built along Germany's West- border in the 1930's to protect Germany against a possible attack coming from the west.

The defenceline consisted of thousands of concrete bunkers, tunnel systems, anti-tank walls and - ditches and infantry positions. The book describes the general outline of the Westwall -which was also called "Siegfried Line" in English - but the true strength of it lies in the descriptions of the individual bunkers and bunker types, their armament, equipment, optics, armoured parts, means of communication, etc. The book is illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps - of which many in full-colour - giving the reader a good impression of the strength and complexity of the Westwall.  Last but not least: the author shows the readers some examples of Westwall Museums and some other well-preserved bunkers.  The book is written in German entirely. A MUST for anyone interested in bunkers and 20th century fortifications!
