De book describes the bunkers that were part of the borderline-defences of Belgium, built between 1934 and 1940.
In the Interbellum, Belgium tried to defend itself against invasion by building extensive fortifications. In the province of Limburg, hundreds of concrete bunkers were built along the canals (Verbindingskanaal, Zuid-Willemsvaart & Kanaal Bocholt-Herentals). These bunkers were armed with machineguns and antitank guns. This book tells the reader in great detail the history of these bunkers. Why were they built? How? When? How were the defences organised? What kind of weapons were used? What was built & what is left? All these questions - and MANY more! - will be answered when reading this book. The book is lavishly illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, floorplans, drawings and maps, explaning the architectural details and technical characteristics. The book is written in Dutch. |
