In this book, the author describes in great detail the history and construction of the strongest German resistance nest of Omaha Beach, the WN62. This resistance nest was cause of the large amount of American casualties on D-Day 1944. In cooperation with the last surviving German verterans that served at this site in WW2, the author describes in great detail what happened here in the period between 1942 and June 1944. Using almost 130 contemporary, wartime photos and 85 present-day (colour-)photos and ca. 20 maps and plans (also in colour), he describes the complexity of WN62, but also the happenings on June 6, 1944. In the sectors Easy Red and Fox Green of the six km long American Omaha Beachhead more than 3000 American GI's fell victim of WN62. Hence the name "Bloody Omaha".... The book is written in German - warmly recommeded, detailed description of this part of the German Atlantic Wall in Normandy, France. |
