The book - the second of two volumes on the military history of Helgoland - describes the military installations that were built between 1934 and 1947 on the island. Amongst others, a 30,5 cm coastal battery ("Von Schröder") was built on the island, as well as a 17 cm coastal battery ("Jacobson") and anti-aircraft batteries. It also describes the underground tunnelsystems, the u-boat bunker, the radar stations and harbour-installations. After the war, most of these installations were destroyed - in fact: almost the entire island was blown up! This book gives you al the details - illustrated with more than 100 photos, plans, drawings and maps. It is written in German. Interesting book! |
