Guide to the Maginot Line

From the Ardennes to the Rhine, in the Alps

Guide to the Maginot Line
Author: Hohnadel, Alain & Truttmann, Michel

Language: French

History and description plus tourguide to the fortifications of the French Maginot Line.

Description

The book is a history and description of the fortifications of the French Maginot Line - from its design and construction to its role in the Battle for France in May and June 1940.

Two-thirds of the book is, however, a tourist guide. A guide which brings the reader to the forts of the Maginot Line that are open and or accessible to the public. Some of the forts (or "Ouvrages" as they are called by the French) are described in detail - La Ferté, Fermont, Hackenberg, Bambesch, Rohrbach, Simserhof & Marckolsheim. Last but not least the Maginot Line works in the French Alps are described.

The book is written in French entirely and is illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps that give the reader a good impression of the complexity and vast scale of these works.
