Fortress Hook of Holland

A pearl of the Atlantic Wall along the Nieuwe Waterweg 1942-1945

Fortress Hook of Holland
Author: Sakkers, Hans

Language: Dutch

The book describes the Atlantic Wall fortifications built in Hook of Holland between 1942 and 1945.

Description

This book is one of the "classic" books on the Atlantic Wall fortifications. It describes the fortifications built  by the Germans in and around the Dutch town of Hook of Holland as part of the Atlantic Wall. This town lies at the mouth of the river Meuse and is of great strategic importance, because from here the entrance to the port of Rotterdam can be secured. For this reason, the region was upgraded to the stus of "Festung", the highest fortification-grade in the Atlantic Wall. Many hundreds of bunkers were constructed in the region - from heavy coastal batteries to anti-aircraft batteries, radarstations, infantry strongpoints and many other positions.  One of the main features of the Festung Hoek van Holland was its Kernwerk - the fortress within the fortress, crammed with a large amount of heavy concrete bunkers. All of these are described in great detail in this book - illustrated with HUNDREDS of mostly contemporary, wartime photos, floorplans, drawings and maps.

The book is written by one of the major experts on the subject of bunkers and the Atlantic Wall, the Dutch author Hans Sakkers. Sakkers has published a large amount of books on the subject. The book is written entirely in Dutch.
