Fort Haasdonk was built in 1912, as part of the outer fortress-ring of the fortress Antwerp. It is the only fort built on the left bank of the river Scheldt. It was not involved in any battle - not in World War One nor in World War Two, causing the concrete construction to be still intact. The fort wasn't modernised during the Interbellum and thus the fort is the only concrete armoured fort of the Fortress Antwerp that is still in its original (1914) condition. The book tells the history of this unique fort, together with its architectural and technical characteristics. The book is written in Dutch and contains 100+ photos, plans, drawings and maps. |
