The book describes some of the works of the so-called "Vallo Alpino" ("Alpine Wall") in South-Tirol, Italy.
Very detailed history and description of some of the defenceworks of the "Vallo Alpino" ("Alpine Wall"), a defenceline high up in the mountains of Northern Italy, built from the late 19th century onwards and modernised and used until the 1990's. The book describes some of the defenceworks in South Tirol - Verteidigungslinie Etsch ("Adige" in Italian), Verteidigungslinie Eisack ("Isarco" in Italian), Verteidigungslinie Rienz Drau ("Rienza" in Italian) and Verteidigungszone Kreuzbergpass ("Monte Croce Comelico" in Italian). The book is illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, floorplans, drawings and maps - mostly in full-colour. The photos show that the defences are in remarkably good shape - mostly clean and dry. Only the armament has been removed, but other fittings are still in place. Some of the works are being changed into museums. The book is entirely bi-lingual: German AND Italian. A fantastic book for anyone interested in 20th century fortifications in general and in Italian Vallo-Alpino fortifications in particular.
