Published in Paris, circa 1893, this is a rare study on artillery of the time. The French text presents sections with detailed information about cannons such as : The importance of choosing a good material for artillery ; The industry of war ; Artillery establishments _ forges and sites in the Mediterranean ; Modern French cannons including chapters on large calibre cannons, rapid shooting cannons, 'spear-torpedo' cannons etc. Also Gun carriages ; Battery. Etc. Includes cannon of the French Navy. This wealth of information is accompanied by twenty-one photographs, including two double-sided plates, plus six engravings. These wonderful plates are a feature of the book and depict range of cannons. The author, Eugne Hennebert, lived from 1826 to 1896 and was in military service for thirty-five years, during which time, having been promoted to battalion chief in 1870, he took part in the siege of Paris. He went on to be promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1880. This book is RARE.
