The Atlantic Wall - From Willemstad to the Somme

A guide along the German defenceline of World War Two

The Atlantic Wall - From Willemstad to the Somme
Author: Philippart, Frank, Peeters, Dirk & Geetruyen, Alain van

Language: Dutch

The book is a history of and field guide to the remains of the Atlantic Wall between Willemstad (Holland) and the Somme.

Description

From Willemstad in Holland to Le Crotoy just north of the Somme estuary, you can find dozens of bunkers, silent witnesses of World War Two. Along the coasts of Holland, Belgium and France, the Germans built a defenceline against an Allied attack coming from the sea. This defenceline was called the Atlantic Wall  ("Atlantikwall").

This book describes the fascinating history of the Atlantic Wall, from the first plans to the execution of those plans. The authors also describe the most important happenings - for instance the battles for Boulogne, Calais and Dunkirk.

It is also meant as a field guide, illustrated with more than 100 photos, plans, drawings and maps, along the most important remains of the Atlantic Wall. The guide makes it easy to find these remains and explains what they are and why they were built.

The book is written in the Dutch language.
