Description

The book describes the history and development of the town defences and fortifications of the German city of Dresden. As early as 1545 construction construction of bastioned fortification was started in Dresden. With this Dresden was one of the very first German cities to start constructing this new type of fortification. The outline of the defences - although most of the walls and bastions were demolished long ago - can still be seen on modern plans and maps as well as in the city itself.

There remains a lot to be seen in Dresden of the old fortifications - along the river Elbe, the casemates and the Brülsche Terrace are fine examples. The book is written in German entirely and illustrated with more than 160 photos, drawings, plans and maps. It is AS NEW!
