One-Man-Bunkers

One-Man-Bunkers
Author: Foedrowitz, Michael

Language: German

The book describes the tiny one-man-bunkers of World War Two in Germany.

Description

World War Two was in fact the climax as well as the end of fortification and fortifications as they were built in history. During the war bunkers and other fortifications were built in all sizes and for many different puposes. Much has been written on these bunkers, but there is one type of bunker that was left out in these descriptions so far: the one-man bunkers that offered protection to military and civilian personnel during bombing raids in Germany itself.

This book is a fine description of this type of bunker, also known as "Splitterschutzzelle", "freistehender Einzelschutzraum", "Brandwachenhaus", "Postenhäuschen", "Luftschutzstand" or "Luftschutzzelle". The book describes the design and different types of one-man bunkers and shows them in use during the war. Las-but-not-least, it also shows and describes remaining bunkers of the different types. Written entirely in German and illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos (many in full-colour!), drawings and plans. A warmly recommended book on a quite unknown type of shelter!
